I always wanted a simple graphic that would tell me everything I needed to know about the Caldecott Medal. All the important stuff. A Caldecott Cliff’s Notes, if you will. Something I could hang in my library that would instantly make me and anyone else who saw it mini-experts on the topic.
So in 2012, I made it.
Yes, 2012 - the year that, according to Billboard, we were all moving to the sweet sounds of SOMEBODY THAT I USED TO KNOW by Gotye featuring Kimbra.
It’s now been nearly 14 years since I created the original Caldecott Medal Infographic, and it’s so old that the original doesn’t even seem to exist anymore.
Time for an update:

(NOTE: I crunched the numbers for this infographic as best I could, but I also know I can make mistakes - if you see one in the infographic, let me know!)
What’s changed? Using the Ultimate Caldecott Database, I was able to determine the fiction vs. nonfiction breakdown, the top three Caldecott Medal winning artistic mediums (go watercolors!), and the average age of Caldecott Medal winners. Share it with the Caldecott fan in your life!
